Silk Kantha cushion covers. These are made from vintage saris from the Bengal region of India, which has a tradition of bringing old saris back to life using patchwork and running stitch embroidery. Each of these is one of a kind.
Kantha is a centuries-old tradition of stitching patchwork cloth from rags, which evolved from the thrift of rural women in the Bengali region of the sub-continent - today the eastern Indian states of West Bengal and Orissa, and Bangladesh. One of the oldest forms of embroidery originating from India, its origins can be traced back to the pre-Vedic age (prior to 1500 BCE). Interestingly, the Japanese have an equivalent tradition called Sashiko. Japanese and Indian designers have been exploring hybrid styles and techniques of this parallel tradition
