Featuring live plants in your aquarium not only makes it more attractive, but is much healthier for your aquarium's inhabitants. Live plants provide your fish a natural food source with the ability to replenish. By far the biggest benefit that live plants provide for your aquarium is that they produce oxygen (O2) and absorb the carbon dioxide (CO2) and ammonia (NH3) that your fish generate.Live Plants(vedio)in your aquarium mimic the natural ecosystem, and may be one of the most beneficial ways to keep your fish healthy.
Plants provide shelter and security for the fish. Because they compete with algae for nutrients, they can help to reduce algae growth. Live plants enhance the appearance and provide a much more natural environment for the fish. By improving water quality and reducing stress, live plants are a great way to improve your fishes' health. Adding live plants, however, does not reduce the need for water changes. When selecting live plants, make sure that you select species that are truly submersible
When first beginning to use live plants in your aquarium, it is wise to choose a large amount of hardy species Once your aquarium is balanced, you can start including the more sensitive plant species.

Cichlids are a diverse group of fish often referred to as South or Central American Cichlids.American Cichlids are a hardy, easy to care for fish species that add brilliant color to the freshwater aquarium. Cichlids have become popular as aquarium species since it is such a large and diverse family. Virtually every aquarist can find a cichlid suitable for his or her experience level, aquarium size and preferences. Even a small 10 gallon aquarium can house some of the smaller cichlids with a minimum of equipment.Cichlidsare not only beautiful to look at, they will also show a long range of fascination behaviours if they are kept in suitable aquarium where they can display their natural habits. Many cichlid keepers insist that their cichlids all develop different personalities and characteristics, just like a dog or a cat would. Another reason behind the cichlid popularity is the fact that many species can be successfully bred in aquariums. Cichlids are caring parents and will care four there young. Depending on species, the male, the female or both parents will care for egg and/or fry- sometimes even by letting the offspring grow up inside the mouth of a parent! The smallest cichlids, such as Apistrogramma cichlids, grow no larger than 3 centimetres, while the largest cichlids, e.g. Boulengerochromis cichlids, can exceed one metre. The body shapes of the cichlid species include everything from very compressed bodies to extremely elongated ones. Some shared characteristics are the distinctive shape of one of the otoliths (a calcium carbonate structure located in the inner ear of the fish) and fact teeth are found in both the upper and the lower jaw, as well as in the throat. Unlike all other known fish, except the damselfish, the cichlids have just one single nostril. Cichlids also differ from other fish by their small intestine that exits the stomach from the left side instead of the right side. Aquarists commonly divide the popular aquarium species into three main groups: American cichlids, African cichlids and Asian cichlids. The first group is often divided into four sub-categories: Large cichlids (e.g. Eartheaters and Heroines), Convict cichlids, Dwarf cichlids and Other cichlids. The group "other cichlids" contains two very popular cichlids-Angelfish and Discus. The African cichlid group is made up by Rift Valley cichlids, Tilapias and Other African cichlids. The Rift Valley cichlids are separated into four groups depending on their native home: Lake Malawi cichlids, Lake Tanganyika cichlids, Lake Victoria cichlids, and cichlids from Lake Rudolph and other rift valley cichlids. |
Discus originate in the mixed tropical waters of the Brazilian Amazon River of South America. The Amazon and its tributaries contain water described as either white, clear or black. It is in the areas where these waters "mix" thatDiscus(video)are found.Today, the Discus is a favorite among experienced freshwater aquarists and does very well in planted aquariums.Because of their unique shape, temperament, and wide variety of beautiful colors, Discus Fish are considered to be the most desirable aquarium fish by many aquarists. Discus will often grow to be over 5" in diameter in an aquarium.Discus naturally live in water at a temperature of about 78 to 84 degrees F. with a pH of about 4.2 to 6 containing very little dissolved salt and minerals. Sometimes the pH is higher, but Discus prefer the warm rainwater of the rainforest.Discus eat small worms, crustaceans, insects, and some bits of plant matter. In aquariums it is best to feed them frozen or live brine shrimp, some frozen or live blood worms, and live Black Worms. Sometimes Discus will eat floating flake food, which is very beneficial.
An Aquarium Tunnel is the most effective way to allow people to be underwater without actually getting wet. The view of fish and other aquatic wildlife from underneath is the most unique and unnatural view available. There is something very ominous about a shark swimming overhead less than three feet away. The Aquarium Tunnel can be used both in freshwater and saltwater exhibits.

A built in aquarium is an excellent room divider for a number of reasons. The first is the sheer beauty that they add to your home! Instead of staring at a blank wall or a generic picture, imagine being able to look at a beautifully lit aquarium with fish gently swimming around and undulating plants. The relaxation benefits alone are phenomenal.Built in aquariumalso gives you a feeling of separation without making the space feel smaller, due to the fact that light still travels through the aquarium. You also wont lose any natural daylight in the room and the lighting may actually be improved simply from the aquarium lighting itself. Imagine that tranquil glow at night! There are two ways that you can use a built in aquarium as a room divider. The first is to actually build the aquarium into the dividing wall (such as the wall between the kitchen and dining room, or the dining and living rooms). Depending on the size of the aquarium, you will need to reinforce the wall to hold the weight of both the aquarium and its contents and you will also need to ensure that there is a space either around the aquarium itself or close by in order to hold all of the equipment necessary for the running of the aquarium such as the water filter, the pump, the heater and so on. The second way that you can use a built in aquarium as a room divider is to use a specialist tank that is essentially built in place where you want to have a form of division. This is particularly practical in more open plan areas. This consists of an aquarium built to your desired size in your desired location. The aquarium can be floor to ceiling for a true wall effect or it can be housed within specialist cabinetry which will hide all of the running equipment such as the filter. |

The Angelfish is one of the most popular aquarium fish in the hobby, and is known by almost all fish keepers. Ideally suited to larger, moderately planted aquariums, angelfish can become prized specimens in the right environment. The name angelfish relates to the fishes appearance rather than its nature, as being part of the cichlid family, its behaviour is sometimes far from angelic! Providing you are aware that angelfish can sometimes be a little aggressive, but not unmanageable, a pair or shoal of angelfish can make a great addition to a community aquarium. AlthoughAngelfishare often recommended for planted aquariums, in the wild adults are usually found in areas with little vegetation and only the young fish, which form shoals, stick close to vegetated areas for protection. Re-creating roots and driftwood in a vertical fashion, using the majority of the aquariums height, creates an ideal environment, but if this is not possible, tall plants make a perfect substitution. Whilst sometimes referred to as a soft-water fish, natural conditions vary and angelfish can be kept in water with a pH ranging from 6 to 8. Hardness should ideally be between 5-15 dGH, and whilst angelfish can adapt to harder water, breeding may become more difficult. Angelfish also have a wider temperature range than some tropical fish, and can be kept anywhere between 24-30C (75-86F) Angelfish are natural predators, but they will become lazy if given a regular supply of food, so they will not usually harass smaller fish that they have been raised with. It is not wise however, to introduce small fish to an aquarium containing adult angels, since any unfamiliar fish small enough to eat will be quickly devoured. Whilst angelfish are not fussy eaters, and will readily eat dried foods, the addition of small meaty foods such as rich frozen or live foods like bloodworm will help to maintain ideal health, and even encourage spawning.
