bsci (business social compliance initiative) the bsci is a non-profit organization with its headquarters in brussels. it was launched more than five years ago at a time of intense exchange on how to achieve convergence in the field of corporate social responsibility. the bsci is a participatory platform of businesses where all members are invited to play an active role to further develop the bsci system and its services. BSCI offers companies a common social management system to improve working conditions in supply chains worldwide. The BSCI members implement the BSCI Code concretely through a combination of external monitoring and collaborative capacity building activities that ensure sustainable improvement in labour practices. System is regulated by the BSCI Code of Conduct. The BSCI Code of Conduct is based on the most important international Conventions protecting the workers rights such as the International Labour Organization (ILO) Conventions and other important Declarations of the United Nations, the OECD guidelines for multinational enterprises and the UN Global Compact. Our Code includes the ten following key elements to improve the workers situation: freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining are respected no discrimination is practiced child labour is prohibited legal minimum and/or industry standards wages are paid working hours are compliant with national laws and do not exceed 48 hours regular + 12 hours overtime there is no forced labour and disciplinary measures the workplace is safe and healthy the environment is respected there is a policy for social accountability there is an anti-bribery and anti-corruption policy The members are requested to adopt and disseminate the BSCI Code of Conduct both internally and in their supply chain to inform employees and suppliers about the companys dedication to social compliance and the BSCI development approach. This step ensures that all parties in the company and its supply chain are informed about their responsibility in the process. In doing so BSCI Members express their wish to do business with suppliers who take social responsibility seriously.
