OPERATION

The touchscreen is divided into an X-Y matrix of sensing cells, using an array of embedded 10m copper electrodes, which are near invisible to the human eye on the powered display. These electrodes are connected to an controller board, and a charge is applied to the array.

When a finger or conductive stylus approaches the surface of the sensor, a change in the charge is detected in the nodes immediately beneath adjacent cells; the position is then determined by the controller and firmware combination. Unlike conventional capacitive systems the active component of PCT is embedded behind the front substrate, ensuring protection, long life, and stability.

The unique sensing characteristics of PCT sensing eliminates the need for an operating force, providing users with the same levels of touch sensitivity as experienced with the latest smartphones and tablet PCs but on a much larger scale, and in any environment or location.

APPLICATIONS

The PCT Touch sensors are a durable and cost effffective method to meet the latest requirements for multi-touch and multi user interactivity, while still maintaining the ultra high levels of durability PCT touch is known for.

The construction is resistant to damage caused by moisture, heat and surface contaminates making the Multi Touch PCT the perfect choice for digital signage, gaming and entertainment, touch tables and outdoor Kiosks.

As with conventional PCT, the sensor also works "through glass" by adding a substrate or toughened cover glass for added protection. The cover glass may have black printed borders to give a one plane tablet look.

It is designed to be mounted to the rear surface of a rigid transparent substrate (such as glassor plastic), and operated by touching the front surface of that substrate.

It is an optically transparent touch sensor intended for use in front of an LCD (when mounted toa suitable substrate).

It is a touch sensor incorporating an integrated rear projection surface intended for use with aprojector (No LCD required).

Application:

Primarily intended for use in large format interactive digital signage and information systemsfound in applications such as retail, advertising and exhibitions.

OPERATION

The associated electronic controller effectively divides the sensor into pixel-sized sensing cells, using an array of microfine metal track electrodes, which are not ITO (Indium Tin Oxide) based, and are virtually invisible when in front of a powered display or rear projection film. These tracksare connected to the electronic controller board, and an oscillation frequency is established foreach track. Using the theory of capacitance field effect, a touch on the overlay substrate to whichthe sensor is mounted causes a change in the oscillating frequency of the tracks around thatparticular point; the position of which is then determined by the driver software. Unlike conventional capacitive systems where the operator touches the actual conducting surface of thesensor, the active component of the flexible film touch sensor is embedded within the sensor andprotected by the mounting substrate.

The driver software allows the touch screen to interface with the host computers operatingsystem by emulating the behavior of a computer mouse, and translates touches into mousemovements and clicks.

The flexible film touch sensor are available with various surface preparations to facilitate bonding to the supporting substrate or window. Guidelines on the application these to a supporting substrate are available upon request.

Film Sizes:10", 12", 15", 17", 19", 22", 24", 26", 30"
With opaque rear projection film laminated mounted on rear surface of touch foil:22", 26", 30", 32", 37", 40", 42" , 46", 50", 55", 60", 67", 70", 82"
