The Test Methods Confirm To : BS : 131 : PART 4 - 1972 (Amended 15 Aug - 1993) & BSEN : 10045 - 2 : 1993 Construction : The Pendulum is mounted on antifriction bearings. It has two starting positions, the upper one for Charpy and the lower one for Izod testing. On release, the pendulum swing down to break the specimen and the energy absorbed in doing so is measured as the difference between the height of drop before rupture & height of raise after rupture of the test specimen and is read form the maximum pointer on the dial scale. Strikers & Supports : There are two strikers & one combined support available for fitting into the Pendulum & on to the base of the machine for Izod, Charpy test. Changing form one striker to another is achieved simply by fixing the new striker into its position. Working : Controls of Pendulum : The Pendulum supported in the starting position is by a self resetting latch. The release mechanism is operated by lever. The pendulum release latch is operated only when this lever is operated. Optional Accessories :

How The Tests Are Performed?
  • Charpy Test : In this test, the specimen is put on the Alloy Steel Support Anvils that are firmly fixed on base of machine. The anvils are held together by alien screws. Also, the end stopper is provided to accurately and quickly locate the test specimen in a central location between the supports.
  • Izod Test : The Izod Test Specimen is clamped in a vertical position on support anvils. These anvils are fitted on base of the machinery. Further, this support is supplied with a machined vertical groove that suits the size of the test specimen. The front clamp piece as well as alien screw enables correct clamping of test piece in an accurate height : such correct clamping is done with the help of Izod setting gauge.
