The fuel processing and handling, offered by AEGIS, is used for preparation of coal/lignite/agro fuels to be used as a fuel in FBC Boilers, Hot Air Generators (Heaters) and other multi fuel fired systems in various industries. The management of MSW is going through a critical phase in India, due to the unavailability of suitable facilities to treat and dispose of the larger amount of MSW generated daily in metropolitan cities. Various studies reveal that about 90% of MSW is disposed of unscientifically in open dumps and landfills, creating problems to public health and the environment. Hence there is need to handle MSW in a scientific way in order to reduce its impact on environment.
In urban areas, the major fraction of MSW is compostable materials (4060%) which can be used to generate compost through processing. Hence there is a need to separate compostable material from the MSW. Traditional (manual) or semi-automated techniques for sorting the MSW can recover low levels of separate materials from mixed municipal waste streams and mean considerable content going to landfill.
AEGIS offers Mechanized MSW Sorting System to convert complex and varied even dirty municipal solid waste streams into separated output which can be used for further processing like generating compost. The mechanized system has advantages of reduced labor cost, high efficiency and low material loss.
The entire project was meant to treat 600 tons per day (TPD) of MSW in the city of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, India. The total waste was to be treated to produce compost and the rejects from the process to be disposed off in the existing landfill. This project would result in reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission due to avoidance of methane that would have been generated from the MSW disposed of in the existing landfill in the absence of the project activity.
This was the first project in India where it was proposed to install mechanized receiving and presorting station for 600 TPD of MSW. AEGIS conceptualized the mechanized system in close consultation with the client and their process consultants. Subsequently the system was installed and commissioned by AEGIS on turnkey basis.
The system supplied consisted of network of around 470 meters of special purpose, chain type belt conveyors and trommels with variable speed hydraulic drive and PLC based control system.
Dust can be a nuisance in many different ways. Dust is not acceptable now as it was in previous decades in light of Environmental & Employee Health related concerns. Nuisance dust can be hazardous to health. It can cause unpleasant work conditions and give rise to absenteeism. Screw feeders are useful to assist bin / hopper unloading and in producing uniform / metered feed. The pitch of the screw is kept variable in order to produce uniform draw of material across the entire hopper opening.
The design of a Screw feeder resembles to that of a Screw Conveyor closely but unlike a screw conveyor, a screw feeder is required to be very precise and accurate. While in a Screw conveyor the screw is filled to the extent of 30% to 40%, in a screw feeder the material completely fills the screw. This is the reason why the material is discharged with uniform and controlled rate and the rate can be varied by controlling the speed of rotation of the screw.
Apart from metered feed, one of the important applications for using a Screw Feeder is where the material is dusty or toxic and hence requires an enclosed device.

Roller conveyors are one of the important categories of wide range of Package-Handling Conveyors available. These are suitable for unit handling only and convey bags/boxes/cartons. Roller Conveyors are basically Rollers mounted on supporting frame at specific spacing. The frames supporting the rollers are generally either channels or angels. The rollers should be 2 to 3 inch longer than the largest width of package to be handled. They can be either gravity type (non-powered) or powered.
In case of short distance conveying, gravity conveyors are mounted at some inclination to generate movement of load by gravity. For longer distances or where the load is to undergo operations in between, the conveyor needs to be mounted horizontally and the article is pushed as required.
In powered roller conveyors, a single shaft runs below the rollers running the length of the conveyor. On the shaft there are a series of spools; one spool for each roller. A rubber O-ring runs from a spool on the powered shaft to each roller. When the shaft is powered the rubber O-ring acts as a chain between the spool and the rollers, making the roller rotate. The rotating of the rollers pushes the product along the conveyor. The shaft is usually driven by an electrical motor through gear reducers and chain or belt drive.

Sometimes while feeding the dry bulk material to other equipment for further processing or conveying, the material may not move due to the less friction with the surface of the feeder and among the particles. A vibratory feeder in such cases is required to make the material move forward over an incline by producing a vibration effect. Here the material itself is the most important factor. To be fed / conveyed properly it should have a high friction factor on steel (of which the feeder is manufactured) as well as a high internal friction factor so that conveying action is transmitted through its entire depth.
Vibratory Feeders are essentially directional-throw units which consist of a spring-supported horizontal pan vibrated by a direct connected eccentric arm, rotating eccentric weights, an electromagnet or a pneumatic or hydraulic cylinder.
